I started off looking at WGSN for inspiration with regards to trends. The brief instructed that we look at Autumn/ Winter 2010 trends. The trends ‘emotive’, ‘useful’ and ‘inventive’ were consequently focussed on, both with regards to colour, texture and function.
From the emotive trend a peach colour palette was picked up on. This could be successfully used as an accent colour, or as part of a four way colour option, used alongside more neutral tones to suggest the environmentally friendly aspect.
From the useful trend, a ‘back-to-basics’ approach. This trend acknowledges that sustainable and environmentally friendly surfaces are vital and techniques remain minimal to create a modern pared-down ethos.
Ultimately, the ‘inventive’ trend caused me to consider ways of combining basic with innovative, in some ways hoping to achieve the best of both worlds. The acid candy trend was very inspiring with regards to the aforementioned peach tone. Wool and fabric swatches were used to move this trend into a direction that could be manipulated when considering the live brief.
With further regards to the emotive trend, leather fabric swatches were used to help represent my understanding of this trend. Emotive trends are ‘humble’ and time-honoured; from this statement vintage was considered as a trend. Personal craftsmanship and attention to detail is very big for Autumn Winter 2010.
What next?
I will consider to look at Autumn Winter 2010 trends to see if there is anything that could be used for the trend focussed swing tags.
