Experimenting with an idea for the 'bag for life'

When creating the bag for life, I used an existing template from packaging idée which I found on the internet, I chose this to experiment with initially, because it was similar to the ‘Virgin’ bag with regards to construction.

Initially I used Illustrator to change the face of the bag to black as this was in-keeping with Missguided’s business card etc for example. I used the heart shape that Missguided use as part of their corporate identity and added a handle to the bag.

This is a quirky element which differentiates it from other tote bags. I considered ways of adding grip to the base of the bag to make it stand. This would be more costly but it is something that people really like to see on bags which they will use frequently. Therefore, if it means that people will use the bags more (consequently securing more promotion), then it may be necessary to invest in such a feature.

The brief stated that amazing arm candy should meet eco chic, therefore I looked at handbags which Missguided currently sell on their own website, and annotated these to see if there was anything I could extract from these ideas.

One thing that I did notice was the use of an adjustable handle, may it be alterable by a metal function, or simply encouraging the wearer to tie it into a knot. With further regards to totebag research I used Merchandise Mania, a magazine for business promotion. This educated me about cost per quantity, thus reminding me that I must consider feasibility with regard to Missguided as a company.

What next?

Next I will visit the shops and see if I can collect any booklets from the POS for inspiration.
