The night before hand in

The night before the presentation has come upon us! Everything has been mounted and I have been reciting the script which I am to read. I made sure that all of my fabric samples etc were in order and that everything was properly mounted because I understand how important presentation is.

I must also work on my appearance – I want to go into the classroom looking like the Missguided character, therefore I must wear the Tshirt that I have had printed, I must also ensure that I wear the hair ribbons and nail polish to ensure I look as ‘in keeping’ with the Missguided theme as possible. I must make sure I arrive in plenty of time for my timeslot.

I understand that this is done alphabetically, and as I am near the end of the register, I will not be presenting my work until later on in the day. I must ensure I leave in plenty of time and that I carry my work over in a way that it won’t get ruined or damaged. I will now continue to read through my script, making sure I know exactly what I am supposed to be saying.

I am very nervous as I type this, but I am sure that I will be ready for tomorrow after a good night’s sleep!

Development of the Missguided character

Hitherto, throughout the development of the Missguided character, I have kept things very simple. The Missguided character would comprise of a peace sign, a heart, and a triangle – representing the female sign on toilets etc.

However, I have also considered a Christmas Missguided, which saw the character with a pair of wings, perhaps being used as a Christmas tree decoration.

I then began to think that I could create a sequence of these seasonal character to suggest how the Missguided character could be altered slightly throughout the year, to best represent the time of the year. For example, I created a Missguided character for the following occasions:
  • Valentine’s Day
  • Easter
  • Mother’s Day
  • Halloween
  • Christmas
  • New Year

These worked very well, particularly those with the wings. I must therefore consider whether this angelic Missguided character could be a permanent fixture. For this reason it may be necessary to create a focus group.

What next?

I must research into creating a focus group to best obtain the results that I desire.

Creating a handout to coincide with the presentation

Today I have considered working on a script and creating a handout for the Missguided team, to help enhance my presentation. I must consider the best possible way of learning this script.

I have considered creating a PowerPoint slide initially, to help me learn this, where I can visually and orally learn the presentation, however this may become confusing when trying to recite the presentation in the absence of the PowerPoint.

I must think of a creative way of presenting the handout – a simple A4 document would not be the best way to convey the creativity surrounding my design and the character itself.

Furthermore, what information should this handout contain? It would not be necessary to include information concerning the company, as the Missguided people are present, consequently the information must focus solely on my designs and the logic behind it.

What next?

I must start to write the basic script to the presentation.

Considering changing the colour scheme

It came to my attention that the current colour scheme that I had looked at for Missguided, was perhaps not quirky enough for the target consumer, based on what I know the customer desires, from research.

I therefore went back to the drawing board as such and started to rework this concept. I consider ways that I could develop both the character and the colour scheme further, bringing it to life more, rather than have a 2D character.

I then began to consider the layout of my final ideas. I had to work on the idea of white space and acquiring the perfect balance between overcrowded and a rather empty looking page.

Further experimentation must begin into the use of the translucent paper. I have purchased this in different colours – not just the red shade I have experimented with. I decided that this red paper did not enable the Missguided figure to stand out enough, therefore the white or green option may work better in this instance.

What next?

The main focus is quite a drastic change – reworking the colour palette. At present my design looks slightly too juvenile for the company.

I must go back to my initial research into trends and start looking into this. I must then consider creating a trend packet / trend box which will allow me demonstrate my trend concept to the panel.

Further considering ways to enhance the presentation

I have looked onto the internet about cheap printing for Tshirts. Vista Print was considered a reliable source, and I have used the company before for previous briefs, therefore I will feel confident in using the service again this time.

http://www.vistaprint.co.uk/t-shirts/gallery.aspx?pg=6&num_req_imgs=0&arr_id=0&rd=2

On first visiting the site, I am welcomed by many possibilities, including tshirts with different length sleeves, and the opportunity for fonts, logos and photographs to be included, both of the front, and the reverse.

I desire to look most like the Missguided character; therefore I will wear the white t shirt as a dress. I am certain that I would like the Missguided character to be shown on the front of the tshirt, however I am not yet sure which message (or maybe a metamessage) I will include on the back of the tshirt (for example, choose me)!!!

On looking at the site, there is also the option to get a bag printed. This could be an excellent way of seeing what the product would actually look like in situ. Therefore this is something for me to consider, it would be a useful prop when presenting, and a lovely addition.

I have also considered how to justify my actions, therefore I may decide to present the questionnaire results on an A3 board, or maybe A2 board, so that I have something to back up my discussion when talking to the class.

I must research more into terminology, for example discussing what each aspect of my design will feel like, look like and the purpose of it. I wish to rehearse this presentation over and over again until I have absolutely perfected it, so that nothing fazes me when I am stood up there.

Considering how to present my ideas

Since the last blog update I have had a tutorial with course leaders. This made me consider how exactly I am going to present my ideas to the class, and of course the Missguided team.

It is above all important to remain professional. However I understand that when being up there, put on the spot, it will be easy to lose my way. Therefore I must plan for this very well!

I have consider ways in which I can enhance my presentation, including:
  • Getting a Tshirt manufactured of the Missguided character, to include the Missguided logo possibly.
  • Having cue cards, which would contain bullet pointed information. These would have the Missguided figure on the back of them.
  • Presenting my work on neatly mounted A3 boards, with my name on the front of each board, and possibly the Missguided logo in the corner. Any trend boards should also be presented in this form.
  • I will dress like the Missguided character. This has given me further inspiration to develop this character, possibly including different colours, a hair ribbon, coloured legs (representing tights), and shoes.

What next?

I must research into the above, to see what is viable, and what I may struggle with.

Creating the 'think green' story board

Today I expected with creating a narrative sequence for the Missguided brochure. For this I decided to go along with the green theme.

I introduced the Missguided character and a narrative whereby she uses a plastic bag to go shopping into town, purchasing food as well as clothes (as researched through the questionnaire).

The narrative sequence concludes with the Missguided character designing the Missguided bag for life. This ends with the Missguided website.

This has been put into the brochure, so that the reader is directed to the website, increasing footfall and therefore intensifying the likelihood of sales.

What next?

Next I must work out what to include in the rest of the leaflet content, which information to include when considering the intended purpose.
